Frequently Asked Questions

  • Besides our relatively undying love for the Terminator franchise (which still has a lot to offer), we’re just two best buds living in separate states in the Pacific Northwest (Idaho and Montana currently) who found a great excuse to get together frequently from afar!

Check out our “ABOUT” page if you want to learn a little more about us and our goals for NO FATE.

  • It comes from the iconic quote passed down from Kyle Reese to Sarah Connor in the original 1984 movie. In TERMINATOR 2, Sarah carves the words “NO FATE” into a table before deciding to stop Skynet from ever being developed. Her son, John Connor (the future leader of the Resistance), recites the quote:

The future’s not set. There’s no fate but what we make for ourselves.

Since then, a variation of the quote has been inserted into every Terminator film, making the theme of destiny and fate a significant part of the franchise. It seemed to us that there was no better name for a Terminator podcast!

  • We cover any and all things Terminator! • For the first twenty-something episodes, we just used Terminator score music for our intros and outros - usually from Brad Fiedel’s T2 score or Bear McCreary’s TSCC soundtrack - but starting with Episode 29, we use a cover of the “Terminator - Main Theme” by the rock artist Armstrong.

Armstrong graciously let us use his cover for our podcast - which you can download for FREE on his website HERE - so be sure to check out his epic music video on YouTube!

  • This is a tough question because it changes so often, but the absolute best way to watch the Terminator saga is in the theater - but since that’s not a possibility, we’ll settle for home video or streaming. Keep an eye on this page on JUST WATCH, a website dedicated to helping you know what movies/TV shows are on which streamers.

Currently, the television series TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES can only be streamed on Hulu.

  • Another tough question because the answer is constantly up for debate among diehard Terminator fans.

Traditionally, chronological order is always best, though that can be tricky. THE TERMINATOR (1984) and its sequel TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY (1991) were both directed by James Cameron and are considered the definitive Terminator stories. This is definitely where you should start.

Post-T2, there are plenty of different options (though we recommend you try all of them at least once).

Next in the chronology were TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES (2003) and its sequel TERMINATOR SALVATION (2009). These were the first post-Cameron sequels and possibly the most respected after his original works. This timeline would be concluded in the 2013-2014 limited comic book series TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FINAL BATTLE.

Then, TERMINATOR GENISYS (2015) rebooted the franchise completely, starting over from the original 1984 film and re-writing the Terminator playbook with a planned trilogy in mind. Ultimately, the film wasn’t very successful though, so they rebooted Terminator again…

James Cameron returned to the franchise as a producer on the next (soft) reboot TERMINATOR: DARK FATE (2019), which disregarded everything but the original James Cameron films. Another trilogy was planned around this installment, but like the last, it never saw the light of day.

Of course, many fans prefer TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES (2007-2009), which disregarded T3 and eventually SALVATION (which came out while the series was airing), opting instead to continue the story of Sarah and John post-T2. With new characters, interesting worldbuilding, and complex timelines, TSCC is the most immersive - and a huge reason we started this podcast!

  • TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY, of course! As if there was any doubt…
